Vandal v2: We Rebuilt the Whole Thing

#

The Vandal Team

Jan 30, 2026

We spent the last several months rebuilding Vandal from the ground up. New design, new maps, new feed, new everything. V2 is out. Here's what's in it.

A designer touched every screen. It shows.

Every screen got redesigned from scratch, and for the first time the whole app has a consistent visual language. Things line up. The hierarchy makes sense. Nothing feels out of place.

Turns out having a designer on the team makes a difference. Who knew.

The map is worth exploring

On iOS, we switched to Apple's MapKit. On Android, MapLibre. Both are faster, smoother, and way more satisfying to poke around on.

Pan around your neighborhood, see what's nearby, discover places you didn't know existed. Explore by eyeball, not just by typing something in a search box.

The feed tells you something

The home screen now surfaces curated, emoji-tagged highlights from your area — a quick, scannable snapshot of what's popping nearby. Think of it like getting a tip from a local who's way more plugged in than you are. Open it when you're bored. Open it when you're hungry. Open it when you have no idea what you want to do tonight.

Your profile, actually worth visiting

Your profile is now the place you go to find tags you've created, spots you've upvoted, and places you recently tagged. Your whole contribution history in one spot.

Great for everyday use. Even better when you wake up and can't remember what "flumpkin spice latte" was about.

Everything else

Push notifications so you actually know when something happens in the community. Haptics on every tap. Navigation rebuilt from scratch so the app behaves the way you'd expect.

A lot of little things. It all adds up.

With love from the Vandals

Go get your hands on it now.
